Tips to handle your kitchen knife with care and how to keep them as good as new
Your brand new set of kitchen knives might reflect your pretty face now but if not maintained well, it might as well lose its lustre and get spoiled in no time. Hence, if you want to keep your new set of kitchen accessory as good as new for a longer time, few simple tips and tricks can help you a bunch. All you require is a little but regular maintenance, and your kitchen knives will work just fine for a much longer span.
First, make it a point that the sharp edges of your kitchen knives never come in contact with anything hard such as your kitchen counter, be it metal or ceramic, which might damage it. Thus while chopping those vegetables, make sure you do it on a chopping board. Next, keep them dry and away from moisture.
Once you are done using them, wash them well and wipe them dry. Try to stick only to mild washing soap and avoid something which is very strong. Last but not the least, if you want to keep your knives good for a longer time, invest in a knife block. Not only it will protect your knives, but also is aesthetically pleasant.

Covering the Kitchen Counters with Tiles
Introduction
When you are renovating your kitchen, you can use ceramic or granite tiles as counter tops, which are affordable as compared to slab tops.
Instructions
1. While taking measurements, consider 1 inch extra as overhang. Use ¾ inch plywood as a base.
2. Level the plywood on the cabinets using wooden shims. Use wood screws to fix the plywood on the cabinets.
3. Mark the outline of the sink & its hole. Use a jigsaw to cut a hole ½ inch inside the marking. Take care not to break the plywood while cutting.
4. Take a cement backer board and cut it exactly to match the plywood.
5. Thinset mortar is to be spread over the plywood to a thickness of ¼ inch. Fix the backer board exactly on the plywood using screws. Cover seams with mesh tape.
6. Place the tiles on the counter top without mortar and using spacers to have correct spacing. To have similar final edges on opposite sides, use narrow tiles of same dimensions. Remove the tiles maintaining the order.
7. Tile mastic is to be applied on the back of edge tiles and position them along the sides & front of the top. Thinset mortar is to be applied on the backer board. Position the tiles using spacers. Minimum drying time is 3 hours.
8. Grout is to be pressed in between the cracks to seal them. Grout sealer is to be applied after drying.
